ghd scored five stars for performance, durability, features and functionality, ease of use, design and overall satisfaction. It scored four stars for value for money.
ghd, or ‘good hair day,’ is a popular brand of premium hair care products. Its hair straightener line offers ghd Chronos, a professional motion-responsive styler. It also has platinum+, which is a premium line known for ultra-zone technology that constantly monitors heat to maintain 185°C temperature from root to tip. Its premium line can also detect the thickness of hair and styling speed, adjusting heat across high-gloss plates.
The popular manufacturer also produces the ghd Max Wide Hair Straightener to help Aussies tame long or thick hair, as well as the ghd Mini Hair Straightener for short hair and fringes. The brand is similarly famous for its limited-edition products, which generally target trending colours or designs.
Cloud Nine earned five stars for performance, design and durability. It scored four stars for value for money, features and functionality, ease of use and overall satisfaction.
Cloud Nine was launched in 2009 and has grown to offer a wide variety of straighteners, curlers, dryers and accessories to help consumers maintain healthy hair. Its products range from its original iron that’s perfect for everyday styling, to its 2-in-1 contouring iron pro that delivers Axial Vibration technology and rounded plates. Cloud Nine hair straighteners provide heat-control for the perfectly healthy hair style.
Philips was awarded five stars for features and functionality and value for money. It had a four-star rating for performance, durability, ease of use, design and overall satisfaction.
Philips is a widely known appliance brand that also offers the choice between three hair straighteners. Its 5000 series straightener offers ThermoShield technology and Argan-oil-infused plates with ionic care for shiny hair.
Its Prestige straightener has 4x more ions for shiny hair and claims to maintain hair strength with SenseIQ technology.
Dyson scored four stars for performance, durability, features and functionality, ease of use, design and overall satisfaction. It was rated three stars for value for money.
Dyson’s vacuum range has been a cult favourite for years, but what some people don’t know is that Dyson also offers a small range of hair styling products. The Corrale is Dyson’s first, and currently only, hair straightener. It features a unique charging dock, which neatly stores and charges the hair straightener between styling sections. Other features include its three precise heat settings to suit all hair types and a curved out body to support curl structure. The Dyson Corrale is stated to provide up to 30 minutes of cord-free styling and can apparently recharge to 90% within 40 minutes.
Remington earned four-star ratings for performance, value for money, ease of use, design and overall satisfaction. It finished with three stars for features and functionality and durability.
Expanding its range from hair dryers and electric shavers, Remington’s hair straighteners are available at several price points. The Pro-Ceramic extra wide plate hair straightener features nine digital temperature settings with a 15-second instant heat up, auto shut-off, plate lock and swivel cord for easy use.
The top-of-the-line Proluxe You Adaptive Straightener features the Intelligent StyleAdapt Technology that learns and adapts the heat to your styling needs, with the hair straightener also allowing you to store up to two profiles so that you can get the results you want without fiddling with the settings.
VS Sassoon was rated four stars for value for money and design. It was rated three stars for overall satisfaction, performance, ease of use, features and functionality and durability.
This brand of hair styling tools was created by one of the world’s most famous hair stylists, Vidal Sassoon, who is claimed to be the creator of the bob haircut. VS Sassoon promises a variety of hair care benefits such as reduced static with its range of hair straighteners,, thanks to features like ceramic tourmaline plates and ionic conditioning in several of its models. Other common features include frizz control, steam straightening, ultra-fast heat up and wet-to-dry styling.
Other models include the Pocket Rocket straightener which is easier to store while travelling, in addition to the Straight & Curl Brilliance model, which features a contour-shaped outer housing to help get the curls you’re after.
Kmart received four stars for value for money. It also scored three stars for performance, durability, features and functionality, ease of use, design and overall satisfaction.
For those not keen on investing in a pricier model, Kmart has several affordable options to choose from. The most basic model is currently the Kmart Hair Straightener, with ceramic coated floating plates and heats up to 200-degrees. Other Kmart models include the Wide Plate Straightener, which features an LED touchscreen, has a heat-up time of four minutes, 230-degree heating, auto-off and floating ceramic plates.The Cordless Hair Straightener includes a rechargeable 2600mAh battery, and an up to 30-minute runtime with a max temperature of 180 degrees.
Not all brands in the market qualify for our ratings (based on minimum survey sample size), but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth considering. Here are several more brands to check out before making a purchase decision.
